


These Latin paradises overflowed with glamour, fame, and extravagant nobodies. Although the context was one of state violence, the stylized mannerism of earlier photography studios gave way to the social commitment of countercultural artists. They preferred anonymous images, taken at random, which were later cut, crumpled, scratched, and even burned. As a result, the photographic substrate itself became a battlefield, echoing the powerless protests against the dictatorships.
