Description

"Ubi sunt" is a photographic project by Juan Manuel Fiuza where files from various sources (family albums, publications, manuals, and research on astronomy, biology, and esotericism) are intersected by the artist's images to create a fictional and poetic pseudo-documentary.

The fiction revolves around a character (from the family archive) who, influenced by these materials, symbols, texts, and photographs, allows us to explore and develop certain concerns, concepts, and beliefs about the literary theme of ubi sunt ("what has become of those who came before us") and the theory of the transmutation of bodies into cosmic matter ("we are stardust").

Two vectors intersect within the project: the intimate and the unspeakable. The former is that which is only revealed in the editing, and the latter is that which escapes language. This project, in its poetics, does not aspire to reach a conclusive point, but rather to connect with the improbable, enabling a taste of fiction.
