Description

The "Urban Impulses 1962-2017" project is a visual essay on a city that finds meaning in its own movement. The exhibition spans half a century of Latin American photography and features several hundred selected images from the collection of Leticia and Stanislas Poniatowski. The perspective here seeks to reconstruct the imaginaries of the cities in this continent through works created by the photographers themselves, who are involved in shaping the complex Latin American identity. This exhibition displays the contradictions of a hybrid continent, caught between the pre-Hispanic and postcolonial world, and the market society that inevitably takes hold of the processes of urban consolidation. We see here the transition from rural to urban, or rather, the way in which the rural and the popular coexist in the dreamed metropolis. These Urban Impulses project into the future. Chaos is working in them as an emancipatory force, and on this path, nothing can block them. Latin America cannot become a minority.
