Description
Andrés Durán Dávila's work has delved into the public space, cities, and their inevitable contradictions since its inception, especially in relation to the installation and staging of certain official narratives about independence processes or the progress of the shared space. In the series "Monumento Editado," the central focus is on commemorative monuments from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century that represent Latin American heroes in Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. Using digital post-production tools, the author intervenes in the photographs of these monuments, generating fictions that accentuate the invisibility of these sculptures in the contemporary city and raise questions about the construction of a national identity in Latin America based on European aesthetics.
