In 2010, artist Stefan Ruiz stumbled upon this hidden treasure of Mexican crime photographs at a stall in the bustling second-hand market of La Lagunilla in Mexico City. Over the following six months, he met with the seller repeatedly, purchasing more and more from the collection. Thus began his mission to explore these time-worn photographs and drawings, unique and surreal examples of portrait photography. Now, for the first time, these images are beautifully published.
