Through a guided tour of photographer Fernell Franco's exhibition "Life is the Street," researcher Andrés Caicedo invites us to explore the Colombian social, political, and cultural context in which Franco produced his work between the 1970s and 1990s. This tour will follow a chronological order, connecting images with contemporary ideas about "Latin American" photography according to Franco and highlighting how these images engage, both materially and discursively, with his work. In the end, we will conduct a collective reading of the exhibition layout and reflect on the curatorial proposals presented.
Andrés Caicedo is a Colombian researcher currently residing in Buenos Aires, pursuing a master's degree in Studies on Image and Photographic Archive at UNSAM. As a member of the OjoRojo Visual Factory Foundation in Bogotá from 2018 to 2022, he coordinated the project "La Época: Reportajes de un historia vetada" (National Journalism Award Simón Bolívar 2023 for journalistic book). Currently, he is co-authoring a book on the framework of the Cold War and the internationalist aspect of photography in Colombia during the second half of the 20th century.
