In a new edition of collaborative screenings with the Museum of Cinema, we present the films “El corral y el viento” (2014) and “Bocamina” (2019) by Miguel Hilari.

“El corral y el viento” (55 min): In times past, the first men emerged from the waters of Lake Titicaca. Much later, my grandfather was confined to a donkey corral for wanting to learn to read and write. Today, my uncle lives alone because his children have moved to the city. Children learn Spanish under the gaze of Pythagoras. A portrait of Santiago de Okola, my father's Aymara community.

“Bocamina” (22 min): The Cerro Rico de Potosí. In the mine shaft, the faces of mine workers emerge from the darkness. These faces, turned into images, are observed by children. Are these images from another time?

Miguel Hilari is a Bolivian documentary filmmaker of Aymara and German descent, currently featured in our exhibition “Ch’ixifuturismo. Arquitectura de Freddy Mamani, fotografías de Florencia Blanco,” presenting his film Compañía (2019). He studied film in La Paz, Santiago de Chile, and Barcelona. His films, premiered and awarded at festivals, depict migrations, urbanization processes, and the relationship between history and the present.
