Description
In 1934 this German photographer travelled to Argentina and decided to settle in Rio Gallegos, where he started his own photography business, “Foto Roil.”
Since the outset, he had the foresight to preserve in his archive all the photographs that he was to take, starting with his first negative in 1934. As a result, he recorded whole generations of the area’s inhabitants, harsh scenes of everyday life, the port, its schooners and the fishing boats of Patagonia. His work tells the story of thirty years in that southernmost region. As a result, Foto Roil is considered to be the most important historical archive in private hands in the province of Santa Cruz, and one of the most important in the country.
