Description
This catalog accompanied the exhibition dedicated to Matiz at the Isaac Fernandez Blanco Museum.
His skill in capturing the soul is reflected in his famous portraits. His low-angle shot technique highlights the character of many varied American personalities, such as Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros, Pablo Neruda, Nelson Rockefeller, Fidel Castro, Fulgencio Batista, María Félix, Isabel Sarli and Juan Domingo Perón, and other international figures with close links to the continent, such as Tina Modotti, Luis Buñuel and Marc Chagall.
Leo Matiz achieves this same strength of expression on the faces of Colombian weavers, Yucatán water carriers, farm workers in Boyacá and Amazonian Indians.
