Description
Throughout the 1990s, the Lima photography scene experienced a new dynamism when the teaching of photography gained strength with the establishment of the Gaudí Institute (now Centro de la Imagen), whose first graduating class emerged in 1996, materializing the need to offer an independent photography career separate from other communication or graphic disciplines. Enriched by the realization of the Latin American Biennial in Lima, a new generation of aspiring photographers benefited from open spaces for discussion and encouragement of experimentation. Being exposed, more or less systematically for the first time, to global influences, they eagerly absorbed the trends and options adopted by photographers from different regions and eras. This catalog illustrates this panorama.
