Description
Publication that accompanied the exhibition of artist Jacques Bedel at Rolf Art Gallery (2013), composed of two series of works: one created in 1973 in which he addresses the poetics of crime by juxtaposing photographs of real attacks – anonymous bodies victims of a crime taken from journalistic archives – overlaid on antique engravings that reproduce meticulously crafted architectural settings.
Forty years later, Bedel reedits and updates this narrative by complementing it with photographs printed on transparent plastic and illuminating them to project their shadow onto the wall. In "Political Crimes," the contrast between the homicidal action and the grandiosity of the setting causes confusion and discomfort, serving as a denouncement of the violence present in the most unexpected contexts.
