Description
Walter Carvalho e Silva (João Pessoa, 1947) is a Brazilian photographer and filmmaker. He is a successor of the Cinema Novo movement and initially started as a photographer, assisting his brother Vladimir Carvalho, who is also a filmmaker (and had a significant influence on him). Gradually, Walter Carvalho took on other photography projects in cinema, eventually becoming a director himself. His refined cinematographic photography carries the unmistakable mark of Brazilian cinema in the second half of the 20th century, while also bearing witness to the social, political, and cultural transformations that Brazil has undergone in recent decades.
With an introduction by João Moreira Salles and a testimonial by Walter Carvalho himself, this edition brings together photographs taken over his 30 years of work as a photographer.
