Estudio Marinó

Estudio Marinó

It was the photography studio that lasted the longest in the La Boca neighborhood, founded in 1923 by Vito Marinó, an Italian immigrant who arrived in 1900. His first studio was located at 300 Suárez Street, next to the pizzeria Rancho Banchero. In 1926, he moved to Suárez 431, where it remained for over 80 years.

In the 1940s, Vito and his wife Lola adopted Horacio, a boy from Entre Ríos whose biological parents had arrived in the neighborhood in the 1940s. Horacio Marinó learned photography techniques from a young age: setting up lights, retouching negatives and positives, painting black-and-white photos with colored albumen, and over time, took over Vito’s role. The most iconic camera of Foto Marinó was a Thornton-Pickard from the early 20th century, manufactured in the United Kingdom. Several generations of locals posed in front of its lens to capture children, families, anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, and even carnival costumes.

Foto Marinó closed its doors permanently on March 8, 2015. A few years earlier, it had moved to 445 Pinzón Street.
