Valdeavellano, Alberto G.

Guatemalan photographer (1861-1928). He learned his profession from Emilio Herbruger, owner of Fotografía Imperial, where he worked alongside Juan J. de Jesús Yas and Luis de la Riva Ruiz. After some time, he moved to Palacio de Artes owned by Eduardo J. Kildare, when this American photographer left Herbruger's shop. Towards the end of the 1890s, he worked with a partner at Fernández y Valdeavellano. By then, he lived in an Arabian-style residence in the city of Guatemala and had a constant flow of high society people seeking portraits; some of his best works were published biweekly in La Ilustración Guatemalteca. After a trip to Europe, his studio became El Arte Nuevo in the 1900s, and towards the end of his life, he formed the company Valdeavellano y Bolaños, where he worked until his death.
