Sociedad Fotográfica Argentina de Aficionados (SFAA)
Argentine Civil Association that brought together amateur photographers since the late 19th century was known as the SFAA (Sociedad Fotográfica Argentina). Today, the documentary collection of the SFAA is part of the National General Archive. The group was formed on April 29, 1889, at the house of Francisco Ayerza and later moved to Florida Street, number 300. After a fire destroyed this location in 1893, the association relocated to Peru and Avenida de Mayo and then to Avenida de Mayo, number 800. It operated under a provisional commission composed of members of the Buenos Aires elite, with Leonardo Pereyra serving as its first president. Annually, they organized competitions, and the award-winning works were exhibited and commented on by newspapers and magazines of the time. By 1900, the association had around one hundred adherent members, many of whom were prominent figures in the cultural and political life of the city.
