Doniz, Rafael
Mexican photographer born in 1948, where he began his photography career as an assistant and disciple of Manuel Álvarez Bravo from 1972 to 1976. His personal work is extensive and diverse. He has published two books on social themes. He has exhibited his works in major cities in Europe, the United States, South America, and Mexico. His photographs are held in collections in the United States, Cuba, and Mexico. Currently, he is working on a special edition about the Cora tribe in Nayarit, Mexico. He has portfolios with the theme of workers called "Jornadas y oficios" and another that addresses purely aesthetic subjects called "Simbología de la forma." He has a special passion for landscape photography, which was showcased in an exhibition at Galería López Quiroga in Mexico (2009). His work has allowed him to travel across Mexican territory, undertaking a wide range of projects and showcasing great versatility in his work. He has contributed to over a dozen books on archaeological topics, as well as an equal number on architecture and New Spanish art. Themes such as ecology, ethnography, and social issues like drug addiction, among others, have resulted in splendid editions. He has participated in the creation of over a hundred art books, published in Mexico by institutions like Fomento Cultural Banamex and Landucci Editores, as well as in the United States and Europe. He has collaborated with magazines such as Arqueología Mexicana, México Desconocido, National Geographic, Revista de la Universidad de México, and Tips de Aeroméxico. Among his collaborations with international publishers, notable ones include Bendikt Taschen, Koenemann, and Schimer/Mosel in Germany, Turner Libros in Spain, Les Éditions Didier in France, Thames & Hudson in England, and Franco Maria Ricci in Italy. His most recent major photographic production in 2008 is the complete mural works of Diego Rivera, published by the German publisher Taschen.
