Costantino, Nicola
She is an Argentine artist born in 1964. She studied Fine Arts with a specialization in sculpture in Buenos Aires. Her first solo exhibition, "Cochon sur canapé" (1992), is considered a precursor of contemporary Latin American art. In 1994, she joined the workshop of Fundación Antorchas in Barracas, coordinated by Pablo Suárez and Luis Benedit, which led her to move to Buenos Aires. In 1998, she represented Argentina at the São Paulo Biennial, and since then, she has participated in numerous exhibitions in museums around the world, including Liverpool (1999), Tel Aviv (2002), and Zurich (2011). In 2000, she had a solo exhibition at Deitch Projects in New York, and her work "Corset de peletería humana" entered the collection of the MoMA. In 2004, she presented "Animal motion planet," a series of orthopedic machines for unborn animals, and "Savon de Corps," a work that received great press coverage. Her encounter with Gabriel Valansi in 2006 marked her entry into the world of photography, with more than thirty works in which she embodies different personalities from the art and photography world. Her interest in video performance led her to create the self-referential work "Trailer" (2010), her first cinematic production, and to approach a paradigmatic historical female figure like Eva Perón in "Rapsodia inconclusa" (55th Venice Biennale, 2013). She works and lives in Buenos Aires.
