Caraballo, Jorge
He was born in Montevideo in 1941 and began studying drawing and painting at a young age. In 1971, he won a scholarship from the French government for independent studies with Victor Vasarely in Paris, during which he also attended theoretical courses by Frank Popper at the University of Vincennes. In the early 1970s, his work in visual poetry gained recognition. In 2000, he returned to geometric abstraction, reinventing many of his works. His latest presentation in Uruguay was part of the exhibition "Latin American Art, Collection of the National Museum of Visual Arts," featuring his piece "Destruction of the Singularity of Form through Repetition" from 1970. His publications and collective exhibitions on visual poetry have been presented in various cities in Germany, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Cuba, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Hungary, England, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Switzerland, Uruguay, the United States, Venezuela, and Yugoslavia. He has received numerous awards and distinctions.
