Zavala Alonso, Manuel

Manuel Zavala Alonso studied Architecture at the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico and Visual Arts at the National School of Painting and Sculpture of the National Institute of Fine Arts. A prolific artist, Zavala has created short films, documentaries, television commercials, as well as editorials and magazines, books, and websites dedicated to promoting art and culture. He has exhibited his work individually and in group shows, notably at the Venice Biennale in 1979, the first Photography Biennial in Mexico organized by the National Institute of Fine Arts in 1980 (where he was awarded), the XV São Paulo Biennial in 1981, the first Havana Biennial in 1984, and the exhibition "Ruta de Cortés" at the Centro de la Imagen, Mexico, in 2011. He lived in Mexico City, where he served as editor of the cultural website "Artes e Historia México."
