Thorlichen, Gustav

Gustav Thorlichen was a German modernist photographer and painter. In 1937, he emigrated to Argentina fleeing from Nazism, where he developed a successful career as a photographer, capturing images of figures such as President Juan Domingo Perón and his wife Eva Duarte, Victoria Ocampo, and Jorge Luis Borges. Later, he moved to Bolivia for a few years, where he met Ernesto Che Guevara. During this time, he published several photography books, notably "La República Argentina," published in 1958 and featuring a foreword by Jorge Luis Borges. In 1970, he moved for a few months to Torremolinos, Spain, and eventually decided to settle in the nearby town of Alhaurín el Grande, where he primarily pursued his painting career. Following his death in 1986 from cancer, the City Council of Alhaurín el Grande received his legacy, consisting of more than 2500 works.
