Tafos

The TAFOS project was born in 1986 in Peru, in the Lima district of El Agustino and the Cusco community of Ocongate. The social context in which it emerged was one of political violence, extreme poverty, and lack of political representation. Additionally, communication systems among citizens were either weakened or non-existent in most cases. In the midst of this situation, TAFOS (Social Photography Workshops) emerged, founded by the German citizens Thomas Müller and his wife Helga Müller. The project aimed to generate communication systems through social photodocumentary, based on two pillars: communication and popular organization. The functional body of the project was the photography workshops held in various areas of the country with varying durations. Essentially, they involved providing photographic equipment to non-professional residents to document their reality.
