Somonte, Carlos

With a Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM) and a Postgraduate degree in Photographic Studies from PTC, London, England, he has exhibited his work individually and collectively in museums and galleries in Mexico, England, Germany, Spain, Poland, Australia, China, the USA, Canada, Cuba, and India. In FotoSeptiembre 2005, he held a solo retrospective exhibition of his work at the Centro de la Imagen, where he displayed nearly 900 images including Polaroid formats, 120 film, large format 8x10, medium format plastic, and 35 mm. Currently (as of September 2015), his work is exhibited at Photo España 2015, and at the Museum of Contemporary Art Wroclaw and Piktogram Gallery, Warsaw, Poland. His most recent publications include series and images featured in the book "Mexican Portraits," published in 2014 by Aperture. A volume in the "Cuadernos Híbridos" series by Editorial UAEM, "Los Últimos Poetas" (2015). The publication of the book "CARLOS SOMONTE" in the "CÍRCULO DE ARTE" collection by CONACULTA in September 2015. His work is included in the book "Photography, A Cultural History" by Mary Warner Marien, published by Laurence King Publishers, London, England. He has taught at La Esmeralda CENART, the Centro Morelense de las Artes (CMA), and the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC). Since 2012, he has been a faculty member at the Facultad de Artes of the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM).
