Ruiz, León

After finishing his studies at the University of Antioquia, enamored with cameras, he devoted himself to selling them for a period of eight years. He then began traveling and photographing throughout Colombia and abroad. In 1969, he established his studio for portrait photography in Medellín. He competed to become a photography professor at the University of Antioquia, the Pontifical Bolivarian University, and the Institute of Arts in Medellín. He has held solo exhibitions at the Institute of Cultural Integration of Medellín, the Museum of Antioquia, the University of Antioquia, and in November 2004, he held the "Clásica" exhibition at the Institute of Arts in Medellín. He was selected by Colombia to participate in the Venice Art Biennale in 1980. He was invited to exhibit at the Medellín Biennial and the thirty-third National Salon of Artists. The National Navy included him in the crew of the Training Ship Gloria to participate in the Great Columbus Regatta '92, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America. During the journey, he took photographs to document this event and wrote a series of chronicles that were published in the newspaper "El Colombiano" of Medellín. Later, he dedicated some years to sculpture. In the second semester of 2004, he generously shared his knowledge with a group of students from the Professional Photography Program at the Institute of Arts in Medellín.
