Mejía, Sebastián
He was born in Peru and grew up in Colombia. He studied photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York, USA, where he won the award for photographic achievement. He has had solo exhibitions at the Metales Pesados Visual Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Quinta Normal, and the Espacio Garúa in Lima, Peru. In 2014, he published his first photobook titled “Panorama” with Daga Ediciones. He has also participated in a variety of international fairs and group exhibitions, including Paris Photo 2017, Basel Photo 2015, Buenos Aires Photo 2017, and Lima Photo 2015. Among his notable group exhibitions are Pulsions Urbaines at Les Rencontres d’Arles, France (2017), Independencia at the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (2018), and 6.7 GB at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Torun, Poland (2018). He lives and works in Santiago, Chile. His work is based on landscapes, primarily in the city. His exploration focuses on remnants of primitive life that go unnoticed in the modern metropolis. Thanks to its serial nature, the absence of humans highlights the anthropomorphic qualities of natural forms, giving personality to rarely contemplated beings.
