Macchi, Jorge

He studied art at the National School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. He lives and works in Buenos Aires. In 2001, he received the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship. He has been invited as an artist-in-residence by several institutions in France (Cité des Arts, French Government Fellowship), Germany (Schloss Plüschow), the Netherlands (Duende Artists Initiative), England (Delfina Studios Trust), Italy (Civitella Ranieri), and the United States (ArtPace). He has had three major retrospectives of his work: "Perspectiva" at MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires) in 2016 and CA2M (Madrid) in 2017, curated by Agustin Perez Rubio; "Music Stands Still" at S.M.A.K. (Municipal Museum of Contemporary Art, Ghent, Belgium) in 2011, curated by Thibaut Verhoeven and Jorge Macchi; and "Anatomía de la melancolía" at the Mercosur Biennial, curated by Gabriel Pérez Barreiro at Santander Cultural, Porto Alegre, Brazil, and Blanton Museum of Art, Austin, Texas, and CGAC, Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

A selection of his solo exhibitions includes "Lampo" at NC ARTE, Bogotá, Colombia, 2015; "Prestidigitador" at MUAC (Museum of Contemporary Art of Mexico), 2014; "Container" at MAMBA (Museum of Modern Art of Buenos Aires), 2014; "Container" at Kunstmuseum Luzern, Switzerland, 2013; "Last Minute" at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Brazil, 2009; "Light Music" at the University Gallery, University of Essex, Colchester, England, 2006; and "Le 10Neuf" at the Centre Regional d´art Contemporain, Montbéliard, France, 2001. He represented Argentina at the Venice Biennale in 2005 with the work "La Ascensión," in collaboration with Edgardo Rudnitzky, at Palazzo Palagraziussi (Antico Oratorio San Filippo Neri).
