Jiménez, Ricardo

Venezuelan photographer. He was born in Caracas in 1951. He earned a diploma in photography from Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, Bournemouth, England, in 1981. His images, in which he assumes the role of a silent observer and accomplice of what he captures, seek to transcend reality and create a kind of short story. His works have been exhibited in Caracas and Madrid. He was recognized with the Luis Felipe Toro Photography Award in 1985 (V Bienal de Guayana 1997) and with an honorable mention in the Josune Dorronsoro Latin American Photography Award in 2001. He has published Desde el cerro (1993), Paisaje vertical (2018), and PhotoBolsillo (2018). His work has been included in Nueve iradas (2001), Mapas abiertos: fotografía latinoamericana (2002), Fotolibro latinoamericano (2011), and Urbes mutantes: Latin American Photography (2012). He is the founder, along with Ricardo Gómez Pérez, of the photography firm Ricar2 (since 1985 to the present). His works are part of public and private collections in Caracas, Bogotá, Madrid, and Buenos Aires.
