Garduño, Flor

Garduño was born in Mexico City in 1967. He grew up on a farm a few kilometers from the city with his family, which gave him a connection to nature from childhood. This bond is an important part of the theme of his images. Flor began his studies at the former Academy of San Carlos, where he pursued a degree in Visual Arts. During this time, Kati Horna (the renowned Hungarian photographer) was Garduño's teacher, and he developed a special interest in her photography workshop. Later, he left his studies to work as an assistant in Manuel Álvarez Bravo's workshop, where Flor perfected his photographic technique. In the 1980s, Garduño worked for the Ministry of Public Education photographing rural areas and people for school books. From this point on, Flor Garduño became passionate about Mexican culture, about the faces and skin of its people. In 2011, Flor curated the retrospective exhibition "Trilogy," which was showcased internationally. Flor Garduño's work is part of the collection "Mexican Modern Photography" at the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City since March 2012.
