Cifuentes, Hugo
After receiving a solid education as a draftsman and painter, he turned to photography. In 1949, he received his first prize for his photographic compositions. In 1960, he won the first prize in a photography contest sponsored by the newspaper "El Comercio" of Quito. He then alternated intensely between his activities as a painter and photographer. In the sixties, he was part of the National Artistic Vanguard group (VAN), founded by Enrique Tábara, which aimed to combine constructivism, surrealism, and pre-Columbian art. From 1980 onwards, he participated in various photography exhibitions. He published his first book with Pablo Ortiz Monasterio. He is the father of Diego Cifuentes, the great photographer.
