Patiño, Adolfo
Self-taught Mexican artist (1954-2005). Founder of the experimental art group Peyote y la Compañía (1978-1984) and the Grupo de Fotógrafos Independientes (1976-1984), with which he presented the traveling exhibitions "Photography on the Street." He opened the neo-vanguardist gallery La Agencia (1987-1993). A photographer, painter, sculptor, and installer, his later works tended to be ready-mades. Wood was a constant material in his work since his first exhibition in 1983. He preferred working with organic materials. Another consistent element in his work was red roses, which became a persistent icon in his later years. He used instant Polaroid photography and engaged in performances, installations, paintings, drawings, sculptures, art objects, video, and Super 8 film. He served as a judge for the VII Biennial of Photography, the inaugural exhibition of the Centro de la Imagen. From 1983 to 2005, he held over twenty solo exhibitions that always involved photography. He received numerous national and international awards.
