Schiffer, Fred
(Austria 1917-1999)
He studied law at the University of Vienna until 1937 when, due to the Nazi advance, he was forced to abandon his studies and work as a photography laboratory technician. After the death of his family, he moved to England where he opened his first photography studio. He was accepted as a member of the Royal Photographic Society and the Institute of British Photographers. In 1948, he emigrated to Argentina, where he lived until 1958 when he moved to Canada. In Argentina, he was a member of the group "Carpeta de los Diez," a sort of collective for the experimentation of professional photographers, mostly European émigrés. Schiffer took photos of political leaders, actors, famous musicians, and unknown citizens.
