Ferrez, Marc
Marc Ferrez (1843-1923) is the most important 19th century Brazilian photographer. His panoramic views forged the image of Brazil as an exotic and cosmopolitan land. Constantly innovating, he was noted for images that were difficult to achieve, such as his famous portraits of vessels on the high seas, his photographs of mining works, the laying of railroad lines in the heart of the exuberant Brazilian jungle and the jagged ridges of the Serra do Mar.
